Well done to our younger swimmers who finished in 2nd place in the Diddy League Friendly at Copeland on Saturday 24th February. City of Carlisle competed against 5 other teams: Copeland, Ulverston, Workington, Troutbeck Bridge and Carlisle Water Polo.
We had some fantastic races and close finishes – especially by our 9 year olds, who did us proud. The team performed excellently in the medley races for all age groups. Winners of the individual races included Ashleigh Backhouse (50m Butterfly for both the 10yr and 11yr age group), Jack Richardson (10yr old 50m breaststroke and backstroke) and Emily Richardson (50m breaststroke, 11yr old age group).
The last race of the afternoon “The Cannon” (freestyle relay with a boy and girl from each age group) was swam by Rebecca Morley (9yrs), Charlie McSkeane (9yrs), Ashleigh Backhouse (10yrs), Jack Richardson (10yrs), Molly Kenwright (11yrs) and James Henderson (11yrs). All six swam their hearts out and finished in 1st place.
Overall City of Carlisle finished 2nd with 184 points behind Ulverston (226 points). Third place went to Copeland (169), Workington were 4th (157), Carlisle Water Polo finished 5th (112 points) and Troutbeck Bridge were in 6th place with 68 points.
It was a wonderful afternoon and we were well supported by family and friends. Thanks go to the coaches, Muriel Moffat and David Richardson for all their hard work and also to the poolside helpers, Jackie Richardson, Katie Hoskins and Judith Backhouse for looking after and encouraging our young swimmers!
