5 swimmers from the City of Carlisle ASC travelled to Harrogate last weekend (27/28th October) for the annual Harrogate Junior Open Meet. The competition was of an extremely high standard and attracted teams from all over the north of England.
The event got off to a fantastic start on the Saturday morning, with James Henderson winning a gold medal in the 50m breaststroke (11yr old boys age-group), finishing in a personal best time of 39.73 seconds.
Soon afterwards, Ashleigh Backhouse took second place, winning a silver medal in the 50m butterfly (10 yr old girls age-group), finishing in 35.83 seconds.
Charlie McSkeane won two bronze medals over the weekend, in the 9 yr old boys 50m backstroke (40.78 secs) and 50m freestyle (33.84 secs). Charlie also smashed the Cumbria County age-group record for 9 yr old boys in the 400m freestyle event, finishing in a time of 6 mins 17.21 secs.
